Arouca Geopark

Arouca, Portugal

According to Portuguese geopark, it was created in April 2009.

With 328 km2, it corresponds to the administrative area of the Municipality of Arouca. Belonging to the tourism region of Porto and Northern Portugal, it is about an hour's drive from the cities of Porto and Aveiro.

The scarce 328 km2 of territorial area bring together charms and potentialities of a diverse nature, highlighting the unique geological heritage, inventoried in 41 geosites. Of these, the geosites "Pedras Parideiras", "Trilobites gigantes", "Icnofossiles de Cabanas Longas" and "Icnofosseils de Mourinha" stand out. The Monastery of Santa Maria de Arouca and Museum of Sacred Art, Passadiços do Paiva, Municipal Network of Pedestrian Paths, Route of Geosites, Museum of Trilobites - Center for Geological Interpretation of Canelas are other attractions of this territory.
