Gusbourne

Family Run from a Beautiful Cornish Beach

Gusbourne’s work in a way which embraces tradition, but challenges convention. Their focus is always on the detail – the incremental gains – which allow them to keep pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in English wine, one vintage at a time.

The quality of the fruit is essential: they farm, and hand harvest, all their own grapes. This means they have total control over the quality in the vineyard; the fruit is only picked when it is perfectly ripe. Around half the vines are Burgundian clones. These yield smaller quantities of ripe, flavourful grapes which are ideal for both still and sparkling wines.

Gusbourne’s are fortunate to have incredible vineyards in both Kent and West Sussex. This means their wines benefit from fruit with different, but complementary, characteristics. In Kent, the Wealden clay soils give the grapes intensity and richness. In Sussex, the higher altitude chalk and flint vineyards give fruit that’s mineral and elegant with brilliant acidity.
