Parques de Sintra

Lisbon, Portugal

Sintra was the first European site listed by UNESCO as a Cultural Landscape.

Located on granite hills less than an hour from Lisbon, its unique microclimate has, since the times of the Muslim occupation, made it a favourite summer resort of kings and aristocrats, who built palaces and planted gardens and forests of immeasurable value.

Parques de Sintra was entrusted with the management of the more relevant heritage in the area, which includes notable buildings such as the Palaces of Pena, Sintra, Queluz and Monserrate, the Moorish Castle and the Convent of the Capuchos. These monuments and their parks and gardens comprise one of the most outstanding Historic centres of architecture and landscape in Europe.

The natural and cultural attractions protected and promoted by Parques de Sintra receive over three million visits every year.
